Working towards making everyone digitally literate
Vidushi Daga began her career at the tender age of 14, as a member direct selling companies like Amway and Oriflame. She soon started holding exhibitions of these products which were hugely profitable. The desire to earn more took her to Stock Market, where, under the guidance of her grandfather, Makhanlal Damani, the then president of Bombay Bullion Association she excelled.
In 2002, Daga bagged the title of Queen of Arbitrage at the Bombay Stock Exchange. In 2013, she set up Clone Futura, and the same year also bagged the prestigious Woman Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Through her venture Clone Futura, Daga is involved in educating children, woman and senior citizens in digital technology, including cyber safety. So far, Clone Futura has empowered over 58,000 people.
In an email chat with 6to16, Daga speaks in detail about her passion and her venture.
How did Clone Future come about?
I noticed that people above 45 years of age are falling into the trap of the ‘generation gap’ so far as technology is concerned. Youngsters are intuitively better with technology. I realized this gap more when I saw my aunt struggling to understand her newly-purchased phone. She repeatedly asked questions to her son but still couldn’t get the hang of it. On the other hand I saw my own son on the iPad playing games and spending hours on social media.
Both the things bothered me a lot, and a thought occurred to me. Why not train both these persons so that the technology becomes a boon for both? While older people need to understand the technology, children need a good guidance to deal with the onslaught of technology. Homemakers are not necessarily trained to teach their kids about the use of technology. All these things led to the start of Clone Futura. We educate youngsters who then train children and senior citizens.
When and how did you enter into teaching about cyber safety?
The Internet is without doubt one of the best resources available to us. Unfortunately, it’s also extremely dangerous if you aren’t aware of who and what lurks behind the scenes. After few experiences shared by students we decided that we should reach out to everyone on how to be safe when surfing the web keeping Internet safety tips and tricks in mind.
Since the victims of a majority of Internet scams and viruses are students and young people, we started a complete package of being safe on the Internet training not only for students but also parents, teachers and principals.
We have simple and easy video modules for references. Using these modules students, parents or teachers can give assessments and also get certified.
We train the students by maintaining a positive approach about the many benefits brought by technology and encouraging them to identify and manage the associated risks.
Explain a little more.
Technology is growing and many people feel handicapped due to their inability to cope with rapid changes in it. We have invented new ways of training them in technology and making them constructive in a simple and fast manner!
Ours is a technology training institute that offers onsite customized training and support service in Computer, iPad and Smartphones to people of all age groups – kids, women, and senior citizens at their residence or work place. Our objective is to make every individual digitally literate, in keeping with PM Narendra Modi’s dream of Transforming India Digitally.
What is your target audience?
Our target audience start from kids of age 5 to 18 years, women who are 35+ and senior citizens. We also cater to schools as well as government organisations.
What is your USP?
We follow a very unique structure. We give our customers simple and fast tech courses in the comfort of their homes or workplaces. This is the key USP because we cater to a diversified age group. Some of them cannot travel, some are even bedridden. So we see to it that they can be taught within their comfort zones.
We also create online video manuals not only for our students but teachers as well. These come with automated assessments and certifications. This apart, we also have Automated Systems & Processes for Trainers.
What would you say to our readers?
Struggle builds character. Often the moments in our life we are most proud of are the ones where we overcame adversity to accomplish something worthwhile. So push your limits go beyond. Be unstoppable when it comes to achieving your goals.
Remember, success is a team sport and no one does it alone. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, get connected with friends and family and work together to drive your life forward. Focus on what is positive and right about the world around you and find reasons to appreciate everything around you.
Celebrate each achievement, howsoever small it is. This drives the brain to further achievements.
Whenever I got stuck, I would ask myself what my mentor whom I admire would do in my situation. One of the fastest ways to get what you want in life is to find someone who has it and do what they have done.
My objective is to make every individual digitally literate. Having succeeded in Mumbai, we have now initiated pilot projects in different other states. Our team of trainers is also being expanded; we have 4000 trainers at the moment, we plan to increase the number to 6000 in the next two years.
