The second edition of inter-school Western Dance Competition (WDC), Sway 2017, was organised by the Western Dance Society (WDS) of Delhi Public School RK Puram for classes 9 to 12 recently. The event, divided into two categories – Accent (group performance) and Knockout (solo performance) witnessed 20 schools taking part. The competing forms included jazz, contemporary, ballet and hip-hop. Renowned dance experts Benjamin Jacob and Devasmita Sharma judged the event.
The event began with the felicitation of the judges with a token of regard by Principal Vanita Sehgal who described dance as an exquisite form of art. She encouraged students to learn dancing, adding she found student-dancers “phenomenally inspirational”.
The competition took off with the Knockout category where the dancers enthusiastically gave solo performances. This was followed by Accent where group performances were presented. The first prize in the Knockout category was bagged by The Heritage School, Rohini while the second prize went to St Francis De Sales School, Janakpuri. The first prize in the Accent category went to Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan while Modern School, Barakhamba Road were the runners-up.
