Basavaraj Bommai

Basavaraj Bommai is the new Chief Minister of Karnatake. He is currently serving as the Minister of state for Home Affairs, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Legislature of Karnataka. Mr. Bommai is also the in-charge minister of Haveri District.

He joined the BJP way back in 2008. His father, SR Bommai, occupied the position for a brief period in the 1980s, making a whole lot of difference to Indian politics. The state Home Minister will now succeed the 78-year-old BS Yediyurappa.

Before joining the BJP, he was with the Janata Dal United, defecting, along with 22 others JDU functionaries.

Political Timeline

2021 : Basavaraj Bommai was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on 28 July, 2021.
2019 : He was appointed as the Minister of Cooperation in Yedyurappa led BJP government. He subsequently went on to become the minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister of Home Affairs in Karnataka government.
2018 : He again got elected to Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
2008 : He left Janta Dal and won the assembly election from Dharwad as a BJP candidate. He was also appointed the minister for water resources.
2004 : He again represented the Dharwad constituency as a Janta Dal Member
