Murali Sreeshankar Bio

 

Murali Sreeshankar is an Indian track and field athlete. He represents India internationally in the Long Jump. He was state-level under-10 champion in 50m and 100m. But later he left sprinting at the age of 13 and came to the long jump. He is coached by his father S. Murali, who was a former triple jump athlete

M. Sreeshankar was born to S. Murali and K.S. Bijimol. His father was a Silver-Medalist in the triple jump at the South Asian Games and his mother was an 800 meters Silver-Medalist at the 1992 Asian Junior Athletics Championships. Sreeshankar was encouraged to take up athletics by his parents

In March 2021, Sreeshankar secured his Olympics berth at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after achieving the Olympic qualification mark of 8.22m by jumping 8.26 meters. He is the 4th athlete in the long jump from Kerala since 1972 to qualify for the Olympics.
